Felipe Pantone
Manipulable
3 Jul–17 Aug 2022
Gallery COMMON is delighted to present Argentinian-Spanish artist Felipe Pantone’s solo exhibition MANIPULABLE from June 3 to July 17, 2022. The show will feature 9 new spectacular kinetic works within a completely interactive installation space, and marks the artist’s first large-scale solo exhibition in Japan since 2014.
Pantone began his career as a graffiti artist at the age of twelve before going on to receive a degree in Fine Art from the University in Valencia. This combination of street experience and academic knowledge was crucial in shaping his current practice, which challenges the ways we consume visual information, particularly in our digital age.
Drawing inspiration from kinetic artists like Victor Vasarely and Carlos Cruz-Diez, Pantone’s works revolve around themes of dynamism, transformation, and digital revolution. The current exhibition takes these philosophies and puts them directly into practice. All of the artworks in “Manipulable” (a word which has roots in the Latin manus (hand) and refers to “something that can be moved or operated using the hands; something that can be managed, controlled, or molded”) were created to be touched and rearranged by the viewer.
