Pablo Tomek

Pablo Tomek comes from a graffiti background, which he practiced in an experimental and illegal way with his collective PAL.

In the studio, the artist develops his practice further: he weaves connections between the legacy of graffiti and abstract expressionist painting, while diverting working-class techniques and aesthetics (remixing Spanish white, creating raw cinder block sculptures with gradient-colored mortar, repurposing fluorescent markings used by architects, and abandoned objects found in the street) to extract a new language—often unfinished—at the crossroads of the margins of painting and urban renovation, set against a backdrop of institutionalization and gentrification.
